Mother & Child Education Center
https://momchildpdx.org/
Mother & Child Education Center creates strong connections in underserved communities by providing a judgment-free space for parents to access no-cost support, education, & resources focused on the health and welfare of children 0-5. We help families thrive, not just survive. MCEC supports families through direct, no-cost services; and advocates for the population it serves, regardless of racial, ethnic, cultural, or gender differences. More than 41 languages were spoken by clients last year. Our clients are primarily low-income families, including anyone in care of a child, and often face challenges, such as lack of housing, poverty, domestic violence, being in recovery, or other trauma. We empower our clients to set healthy parenting goals; understand safe sleeping habits for infants; and achieve personal goals, such as self-sufficiency and self-advocacy.
MCEC provides its clients with prenatal and parenting classes; emergency supplies, such as food, clothing, hygiene products, diapers, blankets, formula, and safety equipment (car seats, cribs, and strollers); and access to additional resources through our partners. Our non-profit is very connected to community partners, clients and to the volunteers and college interns who help us achieve our goals.
