Land Tending with Friends of Tryon Creek (age 10+) *Impact Week*

The mission of Friends of Tryon Creek, in partnership with Oregon State Parks, is to inspire every community to identify, cultivate or reclaim their relationship with nature in this cherished urban forest. Since 1970, Friends of Tryon Creek have provided education and volunteer experiences at Tryon Creek State Natural Area.

Thank you for your interest in caring for the land now known as Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Join Friends of Tryon Creek to improve forest health by removing ivy growing up trees or caring for newly planted trees near the creek.

Volunteer tasks include hiking and the use of small tools. Best suited for adults or youth ages 10 and older accompanied by an adult. Gloves, tools, supervision, and directions will be provided. Please come prepared to hike and work off-trail in uneven and wet terrain, layered clothing, long pants, and sturdy shoes are all a good idea.

Space is limited, sign up today. Youth under the age of 16 need to be accompanied by an adult, those between the age of 16-17 need a parent-signed waiver.

To prepare please bring: Sturdy shoes, layered clothing for changing weather conditions (long sleeves, long pants, jacket, hat, etc.) Water bottle and snacks. Please bring any medications you may need (asthma inhaler, epi-pen, etc.) Gloves & tools will be provided.

Bus access is very limited and requires a 1 mile walk from the intersection of SW Terwilliger and Boones Ferry. Parking is available in the main lot near the Nature Center.

Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 10 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed.
