Repair Children's Books for Local Students (age 10+) *Impact Week 2022*

We receive donations of new and gently used books at our warehouse location all year. These donations come from home libraries, book drives, and other sources in our community. The Children’s Book Bank organizes hundreds of volunteers to prepare these donated books for their new homes by erasing scribbles/ inscriptions, wiping covers, and taping torn pages, coloring wear and tear, etc. We want to make sure that each kid gets a book that feels as new as possible to them so they have a book they are proud to put on their shelf!
Volunteers will receive a 15 minute orientation on how to help repair books and bundle books for our Building Home Library program. Once you’ve learned about that we help restore donated books to "gift" quality for local students. No previous experience is needed in order to volunteer! This is a great project for anyone looking for an easy way to make a big impact!
Please wear a mask, have proof of you COVID-19 vaccination, wear closed-toed shoes.
Free street parking all around and a small parking lot out front. You are welcome to bring your bike into the warehouse to store. Accessible by the Streetcar, Bus #6, #17, #70
Project Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 10 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 15 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Youth Volunteer Release Form signed by their parent or legal guardian. Please download, complete, and bring this waiver with you on the day of the project.

  • If you plan to bring children or guests you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project, click on "My Account" and then "My Teams," above.
