Gardening & Apothecary Party at Zenger Farm (age 10+)*Impact Week 2022*

We are a nonprofit urban and organic farm that models, promotes and educates about sustainable food systems, environmental stewardship, community development and access to good food for all. We envision a just food system that dismantles the root causes of systemic inequity – racism, colonialism, and other systems of oppression – by fostering lasting connections between people, food, and the environment. We work to build a climate resilient, just food system that dismantles racism in our communities and centers indigenous sovereignty. We nourish people at Zenger Farm, using food and farming to foster community health, connections, and strength. We steward the land and resources in Zenger Farm’s care to secure our collective future, address climate crisis, and connect people to food and nature. We respect the many ways of knowing that already exist within Zenger Farm’s community and honor traditions, cultural practices, and other forms of education that increase our collective strength.
Volunteers will receive a tour of the farm, and a brief orientation on the various gardening and apothecary activities for the day. We will be weeding in our gardens, prepping garden beds for the cold months, harvesting plants and seeds, processing dried herbs in our on site apothecary and crafting tea blends.
We have a water bottle refill station on site so we encourage folks to bring bottles to fill. We ask folks to wear close toed shoes and dress for the weather*. Ie; in hot weather, we recommend wearing hats, sunscreen, and loose fitting clothing. In the rainy months be sure to dress in layers and preferably water resistant clothing. If you are allergic to bees, please bring your EpiPen. Masks are optional.
Public Transportation
Bus lines 10 and 73 both stop directly in front of the farm on Foster and 116th. The MAX Green line and bus line 14 stop at Foster and 94th where you can hop on either the 10 or 73 Eastbound and be dropped off in front of the farm. Use Trimet’s Trip Planner to find the quickest route from your location.
Bike
You can ride directly on Foster, a busy four lane road with bike lanes and sidewalks. The paved multi-use Springwater Corridor Trail passes very close to the farm as well. If heading East on the trail, the farm is just a mile after turning right onto Foster. If heading West on the trail, turn left onto 122nd, ride a quarter-mile, turn right onto Foster, and ride another quarter-mile to the farm. Look for the red farmhouse with solar panels.
Parking
We have a small parking lot that can accommodate around 10 or so extra vehicles. There is also typically parking along Foster right outside the farm in a designated parking lane.
Accessibility
The farm has two ADA accessible parking spaces. Our Foster Facing and Pollinator Gardens are accessible by wheelchair. As is our covered patio, farmhouse, chicken coop, outdoor classroom, and first level of our main office. The farm fields, Children’s Garden, and the wetlands are not accessible by wheelchair. Please direct any accessibility requests to iza@zengerfarm.org
