Fresh Food Sorting and Repacking at OFB (Portland) (age 6+) *MLK Weekend 2020*
Join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to our community: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Join Oregon Food Bank and help them in their mission to eliminate hunger and its root causes. Repack donations of frozen veggies and other frozen food into family-sized portions. Volunteers work in a room kept at 50 degrees and to keep your hands warm and cozy, we provide liners for your food-safe gloves. Your presence makes a huge difference, and, it's a lot of fun! Please wear closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes, and clothing you wouldn't mind getting just a little dirty.
Please note: This project will take place in the Perishable Repack Room, which is temperature controlled at about 50 degrees. It is important that everyone be very flexible, and bring an extra layer (sweatshirt).
- Volunteers must be able to lift 5 pounds
- Stand on concrete surfaces for extended period in a (50 degree) room
- Able to tolerate working in a fast-paced warehouse environment with unregulated temperatures (may be hot or cold)
- Ability to handle loud noises
Court-Ordered Volunteers: You will need to contact Oregon Food Bank directly to determine whether you are eligible to volunteer. Please contact Jenifer Naas at volunteer@oregonfoodbank.org or 503.972.2993
TEAMS NOTE: If you are signing up as a Team, you are limited to reserving 8 slots. If you have more than 8 in your group, please sign up through the Oregon Food Bank's Group Sign Up page.
