Help Out Habitat for Humanity (age 16+) *STW 2017*

During this Project volunteers will participate in either of the following projects:

Swing a Hammer, Build a Home: Help build homes on our Allen Estates construction site. During this project you might frame a house, put up sheet rock, install a closet organizer, paint a room, cut and paint trim, install a door, windows or siding, or you might build a fence. No matter what project you assist with you, will be helping the dream of home ownership come true for a family in our community.

A Brush with Kindness: Volunteers will be power-washing, sanding, priming, or painting a house to help the dream of home ownership become a reality for a low income family.

Special Instructions:
Sturdy shoes, preferably boots. No open toed or open heeled shoes allowed on the construction site. No loose, flowing clothes as they may be a safety hazard.
Wear weather appropriate clothing, work could be in the outdoors, so dress appropriately.

About Willmette West Habitat for Humanity:
Willamette West Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to fostering home ownership and improving our community by building simple, decent, affordable housing with a neighborhood emphasis. Since 1988, we have helped 105 families in Washington County, and will sell nine new homes in 2017.

Habitat works in partnership with low-income families, volunteers, donors, and organizations to receive donated materials, volunteer labor and generous financial gifts. Qualifying families purchase habitat homes by contributing 500 hours of "Sweat Equity" building Habitat homes and a down payment. They receive a zero-percent interest rate mortgage (0% APR) and monthly payments structured to their income. Mortgage payments from Habitat homes go into a fund which is then recycled back in to the community building more Habitat homes.

Stand Together Week is the Portland Timbers, Thorns FC, and T2 citywide volunteer initiative that brings the community together to support local nonprofit organizations. The week engages hundreds of supporters, including Timbers, Thorns FC, & T2 players, coaches, ambassadors and front office staff who work with various non-profits in the community. Since 2012, Stand Together Week participants have donated 12,631 hours of service at over 163 projects focused on benefiting youth and the environment.
