Decorating and Gardening Party! (age 16+) *STW 2017*

Join the fun at Virgina Garcia Memorial Health Center as they host a Decorating and Garden Party. Volunteers will participate in the following activities:

  1. Painting pots, adding soil, and seeds. Pots are for kids/participating families to take and care for at home.

  2. “Build a recycled bin” by decorating cardboard boxes using color paper, old magazines, scissors, and glue. Recycling bins are also to take home by participants to encourage recycling at home.

  3. Planting pepper seeds, weeding, mixing compost bins, putting together trailer poll beans, and harvesting!

Special Instructions:
Wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting dirt and paint on. Please wear sneakers for comfort and dress for the weather.
Water bottle, gardening gloves, sunscreen, and hat are advised. Volunteers are encouraged to bring soccer balls and paint brushes if they have any. A smile is highly encouraged and welcomed.
 
Parking Instructions:
Clinic parking lot with limited parking as most of it is reserved for patients. Free street parking is available around the clinic.

About Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center:
The mission of the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center is to provide high-quality, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate primary health care to the communities of Washington and Yamhill counties with a special emphasis on migrant and seasonal farmworkers and others with barriers to receiving healthcare.

Stand Together Week is the Portland Timbers, Thorns FC, and T2 citywide volunteer initiative that brings the community together to support local nonprofit organizations. The week engages hundreds of supporters, including Timbers, Thorns FC, & T2 players, coaches, ambassadors and front office staff who work with various non-profits in the community. Since 2012, Stand Together Week participants have donated 12,631 hours of service at over 163 projects focused on benefiting youth and the environment. 

Project Requirements:

  • All volunteers under 18 are required to bring a Hands On Youth Waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.  (print it now, fill it out, and bring it with you to save time during project check in).

  • If you plan to bring children/additional volunteers you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. Questions? Email teams@handsonportland.org 

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project: log in to your volunteer account and click "Manage My Team" next to the appropriate upcoming opportunity.
