The agency is a Hands On Greater Portland Partner. While we do work closely to ensure that the project will be meaningful, it does not follow the same format as a Hands On-managed project.

Advocacy /Public Policy Volunteer

Agency: Ride Connection

Description: Ride Connection, a community non-profit which exists to serve the transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities throughout the tri-county area, is seeking volunteers to educate individuals and groups about volunteer transportation services.

Position Summary:
Assist with Ride Connection's advocacy activities in support of volunteer transportation programs serving older adults and people with disabilities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities are:
1. Increase funding for the special transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities.
2. Educate others about the transportation needs of older adults and people with disabilities reminding individuals that "All the human services in the world are useless if you can't get there."
3. Speak to and/or with various legislators and community representatives at the Transit Lobby Day at the State Capitol.

Physical Requirements:
1. Able to pass a physical with a drug and/or alcohol screening, if required.
2. Able to pass a criminal background check.
3. Able to keep all information confidential.

Qualifications/Requirements:
1. Possess exceptional dedication to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of Ride Connection.
2. Possess an understanding of Ride Connection's funding sources.
3. Able to successfully work with legislators and their staff members about volunteer transportation programs.
4. Able to speak well to other various funding constituencies about volunteer transportation programs and the needs of the customers.
5. Able to demonstrate knowledge, dedication and/or experience in advocacy affairs.
6. Able to demonstrate reliability and punctuality.
7. Possess knowledge, dedication and experience in fund development issues.
