Opportunity Details

Help Students Fight Hunger at Albina Cooperative Garden (age 10+) *CCD 2014*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join over 1,900 volunteers for Comcast Cares Day 2014!

Students at the Self Enhancement, Inc. Academy have been working in partnership with the Albina Cooperative Garden to help fight childhood hunger in America by making healthy food more accessible.  The students believe that neighborhood and community gardens are a primary tool in the fight against childhood hunger. The produce from their share will be given to families through a free Farmer's market this summer.

These amazing students have worked to cover weeds with cardboard and need some extra support in clearing a large patch for their new garden.  Volunteers will be laying down cardboard, shoveling mulch, and spreading mulch over the newly placed cardboard. We'll also need some help planting and weeding the garden paths.

Water is available on-site.  Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather, and wear appropriate gardening clothes (something they don't mind getting a little dirty).  Bring your gardening gloves (we'll have limited sizes available) and feel free to bring your gardening tools!

SEI Academy is a full service, grades 6-8 public charter school dedicated to helping all students realize their full academic and personal potential. The school is founded on the principles of integrity and respect, and on the SEI tenet that every child will be successful.

Project Requirements:
