Wisdom Gardens and Wisdom Offices Winter Spruce-up (age 8+) *MLK Weekend*

   Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join us for out Winter Spruce-up at Wisdom Gardens and the office of Wisdom of the Elders, Inc.
 

Volunteers will be tackling a variety of tasks including:

-Helping complete outdoor activities in Wisdom Gardens where we will clear the pathways and garden beds of invasive species. We will also teach about indigenous perspective on Native food and ethno-botanical species and our ways of working with invasive species. 

-Helping complete indoor activities including: simple house cleaning and office organizing projects.

Wisdom will provide tools. We have a variety of glove sizes, or volunteers can bring their own work gloves. Volunteers are asked to wear casual clothing and footwear that is appropriate for those working outside in Wisdom Gardens in case of rain or cold.  

Wisdom is a Native American nonprofit with a vision of cultural and environmental sustainability, multimedia education and race reconciliation. Our mission: Wisdom records, preserves and shares oral history, cultural arts, language concepts, and TEK of exemplary Native American elders and scientists in collaboration with environmental organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies. 

Project Requirements:

  • You must be 8 years of age or older to attend this project; any volunteer under age 16 must attend with a parent or adult chaperone.

  • All volunteers are required to sign an MLK Volunteer Waiver (print it now, fill it out, and bring it with you to save time during project check in). Volunteers under 18 are required to bring a waiver signed by their parent or legal guardian.

  • If you plan to bring children/additional volunteers you MUST reserve slots for them. The best way to do this is to create a Volunteer Team, then sign up your team for this project. Questions? Email teams@handsonportland.org 

    IMPORTANT NOTE: You are responsible for ensuring that everyone signed up through your team attends - only sign up team members who have confirmed their availability. Teams that repeatedly sign up, but do not show up or show up with fewer volunteers than they signed up, may be removed. To add or remove team members from a project: log in to your volunteer account and click "Manage My Team" next to the appropriate upcoming opportunity.
