Bink-A-Thon: Sewing Machine Blanket Brigade! (age 12+) *MLK 2016*

Hands On Managed projects offer you an opportunity to join a group of volunteers on a done-in-a-day project led by a Hands On Volunteer Leader

Join us in honoring the legacy of Dr. King through meaningful service to our community: "Everybody can be great... because anybody can serve."
-- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Binky Patrol is an all volunteer, national, non-profit organization making and distributing homemade blankets to vulnerable children and teens through local shelters and youth-serving agencies. A "binky" is a homemade blanket that can be sewn, knitted, crocheted or quilted.  They range in size from 3 feet square up to twin bed size.

The blankets volunteers make during MLK weekend will find their way to families with children in need of comfort and warmth. We'll be working together to sew, pin, trim, tie-off, and decorate scores of blankets.

Bink-a-Thon MLK 2010 144We are in need of at least 40 volunteers who can bring their sewing machines and serve as our "sewing machine brigade" that day. If you have your own sewing machine and want to put your skills towards a great cause, sign up below!By signing up below, you're committing to bringing both yourself and your machine! Extra thread and some extra needles to get you through the day would also be helpful to bring, as well as a (labeled!) extension cord if you have one available!

Please note that we will be working at cafeteria tables/benches for the majority of the time. If you need a backrest, or want to bring a chair/folding table of your own, please plan on it so you can be comfortable!

At 10am, the Sewing Machine Brigade help get the machines and the space set-up, and then we'll hit the fabric and sew, sew, sew till 2pm! We recommend you bring a bagged lunch so that you stay nourished during the shift.

We are going to be working very hard to make a lot of blankets fast! Join us for a fun day of sewing for a great cause!
