Below, you can find multiple opportunities to get involved during this holiday season.  Some of the projects are one-time and some may be ongoing. Hands On Project: Christmas Festival of Lights at the Grotto

Continuing a wonderful holiday tradition begun as a gift to our community in 1988, The Grotto's Christmas Festival of Lights welcomes all who seek the true spirit and meaning of Christmas. Hands On facilitated groups will go out during multiple shifts this season. More . . .

 

Holiday Meal for the Homeless - Set up  -- on-going opportunity

(S.E. Portland)

Rose City Miracle is a Christmas Day event hosted by Old Chicago Restaurants, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery, and local nonprofits for homeless and displaced men, women and children in the Portland metro area.  Join us as we set up the supplies and tables to feed the homeless. The homeless supper is held on Christmas Day, but volunteers are especially needed on Christmas Eve for set-up.  More . . .

 

Holiday Meal for the Homeless - Clean up  -- on-going opportunity

HomePlate Meals with Youth

(Hillsboro/Cornelius)

HomePlate is a weekly meal program serving young people who are unstably housed in Washington County. We offer them a hot meal, a shower, a movie, games, conversation, and other resources. Together, volunteers will prepare a main dish, vegetable, 1 gallon of milk, and 1 gallon of juice, with each volunteer supplying one food item. More . . .

 

Marshall SUN School Winter Craft Night

Come volunteer your craft skills for the second annual Marshall SUN School Winter Craft Night! Volunteers are needed to help set-up/clean-up, demonstrate and assist at tables creating winter holiday crafts, serve pizza, and have fun with the students and their families! OMSI Science Store Gift Wrapping -- on-going opportunity

(S.E. Portland)

OMSI is looking for volunteers to wrap gifts in the OMSI Science Store from November 23 through Christmas Eve! All volunteers will receive free admission to the museum as well as a 30% discount for most store items on the day they volunteer. Two shifts per day are available: 10:00 - 1:30 or 1:00 - 4:30. Albertina Kerr Centers Holiday Giving Campaign -- on-going opportunity

(N.E. Portland)
Holiday Giving is a special opportunity for businesses, individuals and volunteers in our community to join together to benefit the people served by Kerr. The process starts with a Giving Tree and a wish list for the 1,700 children, families and adults served by us. Volunteers are needed to deliver the new, unwrapped gifts to Kerr and our staff wraps each one, making sure everyone has something for the holidays. More . . .

   

Winter Solstice Evening 10K Walk/Cycle through SE Portland

(S.E. Portland)

Come volunteer FRIDAY, DEC 21 for this reflective winter solstice event, organized to encourage a healthy outlet from holiday season anticipation and stress. The 10K/12K red walk through SE neighborhoods will lead walkers by holiday lights and encourage them to experience the heritage traditions of Eastside Portland with refreshment and speaker stops, including OMSI's Planetarium. Volunteers are needed to help at booths and direct walker traffic. More . . .

 

Christmas Festival of Lights at the Grotto -- on-going opportunity

East Burnside Christmas Tree Lot Volunteers  -- on-going opportunity

(S.E. Portland)

Help people find the perfect Christmas tree to benefit L'Arche Nehalem, a nonprofit ecumenical community where people with developmental disabilities create home with others who share life with them. The Christmas tree lot will be open from Nov. 23 to Dec. 19. Volunteer salespeople are needed to work three-hour shifts at our Safeway parking lot location, SE 82nd and Burnside. More . . .

 

Gift Wrapping for Adult Literacy - on-going opportunity

(Downtown Portland)

Volunteers are needed to wrap holiday gifts (books) at the North Portland Jantzen Beach Barnes & Noble Bookstore, just off the Interstate bridge. Volunteers will greet shoppers & wrap gifts; no experience necessary and you’re encouraged to come with a friend! More . . .  

 

Bell Ringer -- on-going opportunity

Volunteer to be a bell ringer this year for The Salvation Army! There are kettles all across the Portland Metropolitan area. Shifts are two-hours. Bring a friend or a group and sing carols! More . . .

 

Outreach in Burnside Christmas Connection Program -- on-going opportunity

(Various Portland Metro Locations)

You can make someone's Christmas really special! We are now making plans for our Christmas Connections Program, where volunteers have the opportunity to adopt a member and deliver the gifts on their Christmas wish list. We will furnish a description and photo of "your" Member complete with their wish list, appropriate sizes, and staff suggestions. More . . .

 

Coat and Blanket Drive Pick-Up Volunteer

(Various Portland Metro Locations)

Help keep Portland's homeless warm this winter! The cold months are on their way and Transition Projects, Inc. is starting up our annual Coat and Blanket drive! Barrels will be placed at Windermere locations throughout Portland during the last week of October, and will remain there until December 15nd. We are in need of volunteers to adopt a pick-up site.

Feed Homeless Youth -- on-going opportunity

(Downtown Portland)

Donate prepared food for New Avenues for Youth's holiday meals. We are looking for Safeway gift cards to purchase food and/or pre-prepared vegetarian side dishes, desserts, salads, donations of sparkling cider, etc. All prepared items need to be in disposable containers; items can be delivered to our downtown Portland location. Holiday Opportunities at Family Bridge Day Shelter -- on-going opportunity

(Hillsboro)

Help share the mission of Family Bridge by supervising the day house and children's' activities or preparing a meal. The shelter is located along the MAX line, and individuals under the age of 18 are welcome to volunteer when accompanied by a parent or guardian. More . . .
